Top Dining Spots in Syros You Can’t Miss

The island of Syros, is not only a gem of the Aegean Sea for its natural beauty but also a prime culinary destination. Syros’ cuisine is renowned for its richness and diversity, a legacy of various cultural influences that have shaped its history.

Culinary Specialties of Syros

Syros is famous for its local products and delicious specialties. Among the must-tries is loukoumi, a delicately sweet confectionery often flavored with bergamot, rose or mastic. The island’s cheeses, such as San Michali, a hard cheese, bring an authentic touch to traditional dishes. Meat lovers will not want to miss loutza, a delicious pork fillet marinated with spices and sun-dried. What can be said about their specialty of sausage with fennel? Freshly caught prawns? Vegetables grown under the island’s sun? Of course, you can enjoy those in any restaurant but you can also buy all this stuff in the market street, in the center. You need to go to Chiou street and visit the baker Aetolia – the bread is amazing – the butcher, the fish shop, the vegetables guy… Prekas, with all these spices, gourmet products, and of course, Loukoumia Sikoutri to taste our favourite loukoums and nougats. It’s a street we love to enjoy a large coffee or a lunch at Street Food Ethnic.

Where to have a drink

There’s many place to enjoy a drink in Syros. One of the best is on the beach or in the nature, while admiring the sunset with a beer bought in a supermarket. Syros has its own beer, by the way. It’s called Syra Beer. But, we are glad to share with you our favourite places :

• Boheme del mar : for its lovely view on the harbour,
• Saint Syros : for a morning coffee with the best view on Agio Nicolaos or better, ask for a take-away and enjoy it in front of the sea at Asteria Beach,
• Barrio : Amazing cocktails, good food, good music. You will enjoy more their delicious sushis.
• The Green Dollar : Our favourite ! It is the only pub in Syros. It is located on Galissas beach. You will find there a really good selection of beers, really good snacking and a very good playlist.
• Braziliana Bar : Amazing view for amazing cocktails. We highly recommend the pinsa too.
• Komito Beach : Only during the summer, you can enjoy some nice drinks and cocktails on the beach at Nomad.
• Kahuna Seaside Bar : In Azolimnos, they serve the best we ever had.

We are delighted to share our best restaurants with you :

• To Sokaki Tis Eutuxias : this taverna is located in a small street near the market street in Ermoupoli where where locals gather to chat over a glass of white wine, ouzo, and some mezze.
• Street food Ethnic : Feel the heart beating of the market street in this small place. The food is amazing.
• Sinnois : This one is also located near the market street and their small portions are delectable.
• Lover of thai food ? You will be delighted to discover Kin Khao. The mussels in broth are a delight, and the chicken panang is one of the best we’ve ever eaten.
• La Belle Epoque : A very large terrace and a very nice menu characterize this brasserie, which, contrary to what its name might suggest, doesn’t just serve French dishes. The pancakes are to die for and what to say about the milkshake ? Delicious ! A perfect spot for a sunny lunch break when the wind is blowing across the harbor. The beer menu is really impressive.
• Looking for a nice pizza ? Then, you want Giancarlo Pizza. Amazing. That’s it 🙂
• Our favourite gyros is wainting for you at the end of the harbour. Ta Giannena is a delicious taverna with fresh greek cuisine and they serve the best gyros of the island. Nothing less.
• To Tsipouradiko tis Mirsinis : If you’re looking for Greek cuisine made with local ingredients and a touch of creativity, this is the place to be. Generous and incredibly delicious dishes await you at this chic and elegant restaurant.
• Severo Day and Night : Really enjoyable place for a drink on the harbour or a delicious lunch in the sun. Our favourite : the chicken wings and nuggets, the salmon bruschetta. Delicious.

• In Ano Syros, The Locals is the place to be for unforgettable evening and gourmet brunch.
• Our favourite Kalamaki ? In Ano Syros, To Xima kai Tsouvalata. Fresh fries with oregano are just to die for.
• Also in Ano Syros, Maison de Meze offers delicious small plates to share. On the ground floor, you’ll find a selection of local gourmet products.

Outsite Ermoupoli :

• Calmo Mare : One of our favourites. A delicious taverna just in front of the beach of Finikas with a really good greek cuisine. You must try the parsley salad (a syros speciality) and the zucchini balls, so good.
• Melydron : Also a favourite. You absolutely must try the grilled cuttlefish and the pork stew with leeks. The atmosphere here is unbeatable. A true slice of paradise.
• To Steadi : This is a really well-kept secret in Syros. To go there, you will need a car and hit the road to the north. Imagine a lovely tavern nestled in the heart of the nature. A place where time stands still. A pocket-sized taverna with a unique atmosphere and a minimalist menu but you can die for it.
• Ela Gyalo : Just outside Ermoupoli, this tavern offers a menu of Greek cuisine, a shaded terrace and a magnificent view of the Ermoupoli hills.
• Meltemi : This tavern overlooks the charming port of Agatopes. A warm welcome, a varied and absolutely delicious local menu and the view. Our favorite dish: the stuffed vine leaves are to die for.
